Advocacy
One of Anne Peaker Centre's main roles is to advocate for and on behalf of the arts in criminal justice sector. We do this in many ways:
Articles and Publications
Anne Peaker Centre is regularly requested to contribute to journals and publications in relation to arts in criminal justice issues.
APC Research
Anne Peaker Centre undertakes, collates and assesses research into the value of the use of the arts in criminal justice, and other linked topics.
This enables us and others to be informed advocates of the sector's work and to actively lobby on behalf of it.
Success Stories
Anne Peaker Centre showcases the valuable arts projects that take place in secure settings across the country. We advocate for and profile the work of the arts professionals who are making vital differences to those they work with on a daily basis.
Membership
Anne Peaker Centre's members include students, prisoners, reformed offenders, and arts professsionals working in a range of settings. A strong membership provides a stronger voice for Anne Peaker Centre when advocating the value of the arts in criminal justice settings to government, funders, and even the prisons themselves. A diverse range of members provides opportunity to inform on and influence policies at critical stages of their development, leading to new initiatives that genuinely benefit all those with involvement in the arts in criminal justice system.
Arts Alliance
Anne Peaker Centre is working with Lord Ramsbotham, former Chief Inspector of Prisons and an active patron of Anne Peaker Centre, to develop the initiative of an alliance of organisations dedicated to the arts in criminal justice. This includes a secretariat which will build relationships with government bodies and can co-ordinate the sector’s response to policy formation and campaigns for the arts. Anne Peaker Centre is also keen for the secretariat to participate in a strategic forum of umbrella organisations that meets quarterly with representatives from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, and informs their policies on participative arts. Anne Peaker Centre staff also have regular contact with Arts Council England officers responsible for participative arts.
Conferences and Events
Anne Peaker Centre often presents at conferences and events, and is in an ideal position to recommend others who can speak on specific arts in criminal justice topics.
Strategic Forums
Anne Peaker Centre have been involved in strategic forums such as the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) voluntary advisory panel, which informed decisions on grant making activity. The presence of Anne Peaker Centre offered criminal justice professionals on this panel the opportunity to learn about the arts and its value in criminal justice settings.
